Parking Sensor and INPA

Post by Stigbew » Wed Jun 12, 2019 5:16 pm

Hi all,

Having an issue with the parking sensors on my 05 E85. Continuous beep when I select reverse for about 5 seconds which I know is the tell tale sign of an issue. Did the diagnostic test of sticking it in reverse and seeing which of the sensors I could hear 'ticking', turns out centre left one was not ticking. Took off the bumper and swapped the far left and centre left sensors and tried the test again. This time the centre left was still not ticking implying that the position is not working not the sensor being faulty. I've read that the central control unit could also be at fault but wanted more confirmation or if there were any other possibilities before I went ahead, purchased one and swapped it out.

I have an OBDII cable and access to INPA but no idea how to use it and if I could use the diagnosis function to confirm the problem. Was looking for advice on how to use the INPA (and if it will help at all) or anything else that I can try.

Cheers,
Stew

https://youtu.be/A3KZUCCiqCE fast forward to about ten minutes mate, he's doing it on an E46 but the method is the same, you just select e85 along the bottom. I can do some screenshots for you next time I have mine plugged in if you like.

Parking Sensor and INPA

So I got INPA working this morning. Went into the parking sensors, cleared the error messages that were there reset it all and then checked the error messages again and there was one there. The message was in German but putting it into google translate I got:

"Voltage converter in general
Short circuit to earth
error currently available"

Any ideas what this could mean for the system and any potential fixes??

Could be the PDC module itself? I had a water damaged PDC module in my 1 series, and it caused a load of generic sounding electrical errors to be logged.

Hi, did the new unit fix the issue?

I’ve the same 5 second beep on mine, but doesn’t seem to happen all the time. Checked, and all sensors were clicking.

If it’s an intermittent problem it’s usually water that has got into one or more of the sensors. Spray wd40 into them as best you can. Usually does the trick.
