Cheers Dave star as alwaysAnubisZed wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 12:16 pm Right guys, as follows....
Yes it's accessible.
Yes it's replaceable.
You'd need a specific HDD type.
You can install a SSD instead.
But nothing is easy!!

It's a Toshiba mk8050gac https://icecat.biz/p/toshiba/mk8050gac/ ... 93168.html
If you are going the route of getting a PATA SSD instead of a spindle drive, make sure it is rated for temps.
In some areas of the UK, its more likely to need to be waterproofed than concern for overheat....
Operating temperature (T-T) -30 - 85 °C
Operating vibration 29.4 G
Non-operating vibration 49 G
Operating altitude -300 - 5500 m

Totally agree, it would bug me as well.birdy_z4 wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 3:31 pm Thanks all for the feedback and suggestions
I will look at the feeds on changing the hard drive
Have USB and mmi box installed so not desperate as other stuff to fix but it’s the little things that bug the hell out of men when they don’t work.
It’s a 2010 3.0si so getting on maybe a job for the winter
Another thing to consider here is that the HDD also contains your Sat-Nav maps!! Not that that is bothering me as my GPS isn't working at the moment but at least I've got 2023-2 maps installed
I did look into installing a larger SSD when I first saw those write-ups, but I just couldn't be bothered, especially as I don't carry a lot of music. Even my 64Gb stick is only partially full, but it is nice to have album artwork when I do use it.

So decided to take the plunge and update to Combox had all the bits for a while
Implemented the update and coding as far as my knowledge goes, blue tooth music and when plugged into iPhone work as now does the hard drive and usb music with pictures.
No internet or bmw apps which I believe you need a donor vin so will research this but not a big one for me and also no email in office and believe connected drive app no longer available

Well done
BMW Apps on your iPhone (connected through cable) - Some work, some don't. Spotify is one that defo works, with album art etc (cable only, not bluetooth streaming).
Alas this is a 13 year old system, that wasn't updated after 2013, and never will be again!
Internet, BMW Apps (on headunit), email and Connected Drive (phone app) all no longer work/no longer supported.
