Nearside/left foglight (located in or ship to NL)

Drat. First time I take the old bruiser out for a spin in weeks and *BANG* my left fog gets wiped out.
No blood so it wasn't something living that's now dead, so it must've been a stone.
Oh well, s**t happens. Could have been worse.

Could have prevented it smashing maybe by covering the fogs in Lamin-X when I had the bumper off to refurb the headlights a couple of years ago but totally forgot. Well, now is as good a time as ever I suppose.

Anyone got one. I'm currently located in NL.
Or is it repairable? There's a glass workshop not far from me. I could get them to cut a disc the same shape/size and bond it on to the frame maybe. Or is that being a proper tightwad? lol

Fk it. I'm going to try a repair.
Tightwad or not, at 132 fekin European Euros for a new one I think it's worth a crack.

Looks like I can get either a piece of glass or perspex cut from a few places near me. It's flat glass so that makes it easier. I always assumed it was convex for some reason.
The only thing I need to find out is if I can remove the remnants of the old glass and bonding material sufficiently to get a nice mating surface prepared.
Any idea what the best bonding material I should use is or will a bead of strong silicone do?

If I make a good job of it and the repair lasts it may be a decent cheap option for others to take.
I'll document it here or in a dedicated thread when I get around to it.

So the glass company I've been communicating with are making a beef out of me asking them to round the edges of any pieces of cut glass after sending them a photo of what an E85 foglight glass looks like.
What a palava!

So after looking at a few other options I'm going to give 4mm Lexan (polycarbonate) sheet a crack.
It's easier to work with, I can cut and finish the shape myself, it's stronger than glass and it's cheaper. No brainer right?

Does anyone know the max width and height of the oval shaped glass on one of these?
Any of the dismantlers on the forum measure one up for me if they have the time/willing?
(I'd pull the foglight out to measure it myself but I'm currently not located where the car is.)

2nd hand on eBay for 30 quid plus postage. Isn’t this a bit of a waste of your time?

Not if I have the time to waste!
:P

I've got this inked in as a little side-project for a non-biking evening.

Wasting time to me is:
  • watching anything/everything on telly,
  • watching (most) stuff on youtube, except for watching people make/fix stuff and cat videos of course
  • doing the VAT return every quarter but it's gotta be done,
  • answering clients' dumber than dumb questions and then having to repeat the same answer in a different way until they get it
  • ironing shirts
  • hanging washing and extra time wasted when matching socks up lol. but that last one was sort of solved when my good ladyfriend Laura suggested I fold the top part of the socks together so that they stay paired in the washing machine.
'But what if they become separated in the turbulence and turmoil of the washing machine?' I asked.
Her: then you're really fkd and you may as well kill yourself.
    Me: right.
  • giving this long-winded reply to your question

That's a very kind offer Barty! Aardig van je!
I'm keen to see if I can make the repair work so I already ordered a sheet of 4mm (edit) Lexan for a few Euros.
if I bugger it up then I'll be straight onto you...
