Daily or Boys Toy?

Post by tomoz4white » Fri May 26, 2023 8:22 am

It would be interesting to see the percentage split of 'daily users' and 'boys toy users'... Pardon the expression, but my Zed is a 'Sunday Car', hence the low mileage at 36,000.

The poll for this one devired from the low and high mileage threads.

Be interesting....🤔

Daily or Boys Toy?

Boys toy, under 2 yrs old, haven’t driven it at all for 5+ weeks (more I just can’t remember ) but just about 17k

Only used for forum runs and trips away so sorry Tom, I don’t agree that Boys Toys = low mileage

I agree with TOMGREEN413, that irrespective of type of ownership they should be driven :driving:

G29 M40i Thundernight with Ivory interior, all option packs (here for a while, hopefully )
G29 M40i Misano Blue all option packs (Gone 26k of fun)
E89 35iS, Valencia Orange, Design Pure Traction pack (Gone)
    E89 23i sDrive, Silver (Gone)

I try to split the driving between my cars.
    I have a Fiat Panda 100HP on 101k and the E85 is on 118k.
I just drive what I feel or need to on the day. Both cars are fun and the driving dynamic is different and entertaining.

Interesting results so far.... After 100 votes in, my guess is 'daily' at 55%, 'boys toys' at 45%🤔

Would everyone agree that E89 and G29 cars are most likely to have more daily's? I should have included that in the poll....

Regardless, it will be interesting to see the results across the 3 versions.

I’ve gone with ‘toy’ as generally I use the X1 for my daily, if the weather’s s**t or for family trips etc. However if the sun’s out then I’ll take any opportunity to drive the Z4. Makes for a much more enjoyable drive to work and gives me something to look forward to if I have a bad day!

That generally has nothing to do with cars, IME.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

    F31 320i. Good car.
    E89 20i Now fully dried
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!

G29 yes maybe. Only because they are that much more expensive and newer. Not many people IMO will spend £40-50k on a Sunday car and if they do, would guess more likely to be something a little more exotic.

All my Z’s have been weekend cars, apart from the Mrs project shoestring which she used as a daily while she had it.

Now looking to cut the fleet to two, so whatever replaces the E89 will effectively be a daily, although won’t be used every day as the Mrs can only drive 50% of the time.

I agree, the daily's percentage will be driven upwards in view of that... After all the collective results are in, I will kick off the same poll in a few weeks for just E85/E86 owners 👍

Now I have an electric car, I have promoted the e85 from “boy’s toy” to “resilience” for when my primary means of transport runs out of batteries or won’t go the distance.
I would be happy to run my 20 year old roadster as a daily, much happier in fact than running the 10 year old TR7 convertible (same colour, fancy that) which was my actual daily back in the day.
