Some chips in the E89, F56 and XC70 Volvo..

Typical deep chip down to bare metal…

Previous attempts at using two part touch up paints in these chips has been poor ..is it me?

Chipex seems to solve the problem by just adding a blob of a single paint and cutting back…

Deep chip, little blob of primer, then colour, carefully flat off then lacquer, Final cut and polish, try and leave a couple of days between paint and flatting off.

I use Dr Colourchip, you can wipe on and off as often as you like so you never end up with a blob. The paint doesn’t stick to the paint outside the chip so with the wipes you just take that off.

Easiest product I have ever used for the chips

I had a smart repair done on my car. Had a scratch on bumper. And one on my door.
Guy didn’t do a full smart repair. Just filled it in and polished and I swear I’ve been looking ever since and I can’t see where the scratches were.

So can’t afford smart repairs..Dr Colourchip not available for one car ..so will try Chipex, Dr Colourchip and official BMW 2 pack and report back :thumbsup:

What do you mean? I have 7 different Dr Colourchip paint bottles and two full packages with the alcohol etc

Didn’t accept the F56 colour code…later found out it would accept a partial colour code..by that time I’d moved on..let’s see how it does on the E89..

I used Langka blob eliminator, it works well. Just apply normal colour paint wait a bit to dry and use the blob eliminator to remove the access.

I have the blob remover but when I used it on a slightly sloping bit of the bonnet I damaged the paint as it cut in the paint on the side.

I think you will always get a blob after applying paint.

You can use any abrasive to get the paint flat, as said above, wait a few days before sanding. Yes, you will probably make a ‘burn mark’ around the area if using sand paper, but this can all be polished out even by hand with some auto glym paint renovator, or, perhaps some ultimate compound + finish.

My method:

Degrease the area, remove any waxes etc.
Clean the chip maybe using a cotton bud etc.
apply primer depending on the depth.
(You can use halfords high build primer for this, with their paint kits, the colour match isnt the best tho)
Once primer is dry, after several hours you can apply paint.
It will make a bobble.
Leave to dry for several hours
Cut back with 3000 grit, refine with 7000. I do this wet.
Then polish the area with auto glym paint renovator.

I have tried with clear laquer before but not had any luck with it. I find there is no depth left in the chip to apply it once done, I coated over a chip with it after doing the above but it made a mess. I had to sand it all off, and polish out.

Good luck, the syringe method also works. The halfords applicators have a great way of getting the paint in, but the colour matches are awful, so had to order BMW paint.
