Fan Noise and heat
Hi all, I have noticed that my engine fan seems to be coming on very early when driving and also very frequently a lot more than I have noticed with any other vehicles.
I took the car in to be looked at and everything came out ok but it's still happening and also the air gets warm in the cabin quite quickly too....
Anyone any ideas?

Check you haven't got the a/c on permanently. There is only one electric fan which doubles as a radiator cooling fan and a/c cooling fan.
The E89 cycles the fan for the a/c via a high pressure switch, it doesn't run permanently with the a/c on like on some cars.

All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

On the N20 engine versions (yours)..there is a relatively common fault with the engine coolant sensor failing and causing such a paddy..you need a decent Indy to check that one out..optimistique1 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 9:45 pmSorry not very good am I?Chippie wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 9:24 pme89 -?optimistique1 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 8:19 pm Sorry yes it's the E89 model....

Without a decent fault code reader you are grasping at straws I’m most of these cases..

Thank you that's good to know is it an expensive fix?
I am taking the car in soon to get the coolant flushed out as I topped it up the other day and I think I have mixed two different coolant types.
So, I decided to get it flushed out and get the recommended BMW coolant put in, just hope my error of mixing coolants doesn't cause an issue.
Whilst the car is in I can get them to check the sensor.....

I think the sensor is about £80..it looks like an oil pressure sensor..optimistique1 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 10:11 pm Thank you that's good to know is it an expensive fix?

Hi,
I see your car had the same issues I am experience with my Z4 E 89 2.0 2013 .
I’ve had water pump done and thermostat still having problems .
What was the part you had done on yours please ?
So I can let my garage know .
My fan keeps going mad , coolant getting hot.
Went to BMW who said the thermostat and pump needed replacing . Had it done at a different garage
BMW are saying I would have to pay again for them to look at it - which I’m not happy to pay £220 again for them to look again.
Have a code which now says
