Roof won't go down

Post by AP Nind » Mon Apr 24, 2023 4:54 pm

Hi, I'm a newbie and need some help! The roof on my 2006 Z4 goes down but won't come back up. I understand it is likely to be the roof motor. Not a job for me so I was wondering if anyone could recommend where I could take it in Suffolk or Norfolk in the UK to get it sorted without being stung for high bills! Thanks.

Welcome AP Nind

Your location couldn’t be better :D

A chap named Enuffzed on here will be along shortly to help you out

He is based in Attleborough and is quite the specialist on roofs! :P

And lo! Here I am :D
Pretty good chance that it is the hydraulic pump starting to fail.
I assume the motor still runs but it won't move up?
If you put it up by hand can you then lower it using the motor again?
Anyway, the first step is move it into the boot so we can see what's up.
I have spare motors and pumps and am more than happy to help.
Not sure what you think is a 'high bill'. I will PM you now and see what you think. Bear in mind pumps are quite hard to find in comparison to the motor.
Look out for a PM to reply to shortly.

Just an end of story for anyone who reads my original post. Shortly after the original post I met up with enuff_zed. A really nice chap with so much Z4 knowledge. For a fraction of the prices I had been quoted by various garages he was able to sort out the issues I was having with my roof. I'm so glad I found him and this forum, great stuff :D

Pleasure to meet you and glad we could sort your car. Honestly, what sort of garage tells you it’s too expensive and you should scrap the car!!!!!
