I knew I had come across the inspection II, so looked that up to see what all is checked/replaced. Sounds like a pretty thorough inspection.
I'm guessing if there is a stamp, some people look for that when they buy a used BMW... The one guy that I purchased a car from, he had a Ferrari he got rid of, the frequency/cost of getting the valves adjusted and the fact that if you didn't have dealer paperwork/proof, nobody wanted to buy your car, so he said.

I finally finished my shop last year and with a lift, that makes such a huge difference performing maintenance!

It's cheap for the mileage, on the face of it.

But while I could live with owner servicing for an N52 engine, I just wouldn't for an S54!

And that's the problem - at some point you'll need to sell it and get into this same debate.

Still I'd give it a miss for being silver with black interior anyway!

I do all my own maintenance on my S54, so just curious. Will be adjusting my valves next. Looking at shim kits.

It won’t be long before I’ll be doing all my maintenance. I’ll have an inspection 2 done this year but for how much longer you have to ask what it’s worth getting a stamp.

I presume you are capable of doing the valve clearances yourself?

Imo you will always pay more dollar taking your car to a mechanic as opposed to servicing it yourself. However a car which has been serviced regularly by a reputable BMW specialist or BMW themselves will always be easier to sell than a car which has been self-serviced…

Yes but doing it yourself makes sure it's done correctly and two inspections, if it's a long term keeper, will make up in not paying for it to be done elsewhere to losing a little on not having an 'Official' service stamp, and esp if you provide pics of the clearances etc.

Yes, it should not be a problem with removing/installing the valve lifter pucks. Doing it myself I can be particular on the specs to get the best performance and all of them correctly setup exactly as I want. I recall my brother buying a new 2 door Honda Accord and I had bought a new 4 door Accord. Both manual trannys and same engine. I could not keep up with his car at all. I adjusted the valves and he could never keep up with me after that. My Kawasaki 1000 LTD has pucks too, so familiar with that type setup/adjustment.

I'm not good about selling my vehicles, so have a very large shop with cars and a lift. In my case people want to buy my vehicles because they know I'm particular. But I understand what you are saying, regarding not wanting to buy a car that was not cared for by a shop. I have two brothers, we all have lifts and do all our own maintenance and none of us have had good luck with dealer maintenance...horror stories!

I was thinking the same-you’d need €40k+ for an MC in Italy. Would need a committed person but plenty of Elise’s left the UK in rhd and given the availability of LHD donors, swapping the dash and other bits would be far easier than doing so with the lotus.

Valve clearances are easy. No different to doing valve clearances like in the good old days except probably easier with the replaceable shims instead of adjusting and trying to hold it.

Originally a German car…then mine….then ended up in Italy.

Z4M and Alpina are already double the price in Germany compared with the UK !

The UK is the car bargain country again. To import into Germany though you need to factor-in 10% import tax and 19% VAT if the car is coming from the UK. Yet another ‘Brexit Benefit’!
