Selling My E89

Post by DHO51E » Fri Mar 31, 2023 4:37 pm

Hi all.
Retiring to Cyprus in September and thought about taking the Zed out-330 days of sunshine etc, then thought of the terrain off the main roads and decided that I would have to sell (We are buying a property up in the hills).
Had a look in the normal places for pricing tips and I am still confused as to what its worth.
Its a 2 owner car bought after the 1st owner P/Exd with BMW Park Lane and swapped into a new 5-Series.
Its a manual, June 2016 registered sDrive 2.0i MSport car in Mineral white with black Kansas leather and 45,602 miles.
Spec according to VIN check is;
Auto stop/start. MFSW. 19" double spoke 326 wheels with RF tyres. TPMS. Folding electric mirrors with auto dip. Interior mirror with auto dip. Sport seats with electrically adjustable lumbar and bolsters on driver & passenger seats. Heated driver/passenger seats. Storage compartment package with ski hatch. Wind deflector. Carbon Shadow interior detailing. PDC (Front & rear). Rain sensor. Auto lights. Auto climate control. Cruise with brake function. Extended light package. Professional Navigation. Voice control. DAB radio. DSP Professional Hi-Fi (14 speakers!!!). Hands free with USB interface. Servotronic steering. Blow-by heater (?). IDrive with SOS services, connected drive, Internet, RTTI. Just upgraded the maps and RTTI/Internet package. It has a full BMW service history and has been well loved.
Any thoughts? Will put it up on the forum once I find out the ballpark figure.
Thanks in advance.

David

Sounds nice..if it was me the only negative is the manual box…

Coming into summer are you in a rush to sell?

North of £15k…

Possibly £17k….max if you are lucky…

But it’s a crowded market with lots on offer…
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

Selling My E89

Cheers B21.
Personally, I wouldn't buy a sports car without a manual. Autos, IMHO are for cruisers, barges and SUVs.
Summer is the time to get the best price! Selling the house and getting ready to move to Cyprus. No room for a weekend car :-)
I've seen the same year and mileage as mine with not as good a spec for anywhere from £16K to £19K. Gonna have to take a punt!

Thanks

David

Feel free..you may be lucky..most of the higher priced cars just stick then either are taken off sale or price reduced..the ones I followed when buying 2 years ago when prices were crazy typically dropped £2k-£5k of what they were intitally listed at..

Indeed - asking price isn’t the selling price :)

If there are lots out there for sale, you might need to be very competitive unless there is something outstanding about your vehicle?

As a private seller you won’t be offering financing, warranty or part ex either, north of £10k that cuts your market considerably.

Is 2litre z4 a sports car? Deffo a fun car for sure.

I agree, i fail to see why a manual box is a negative.
Correct me if i am wrong, but most people buying a 2 seater sports car seem to want a manual box.

:tumbleweed:

That’s just not true. How many z4s are manual? Not many.

That’s because the people choose to buy an auto or DCT. Buyers had the choice & they preferred auto by a huge margin.

Times have changed.

I bet there are less than a handful of ‘sports cars’ available new that even offer a manual option.

The world has voted with its wallet- manual cars are things of the past.

In this segment most buyers bought a z4 cos it looks nice & you can take the roof off, not because it’s got genuine performance.

Anyone keen enough on getting a manual box would also be well aware of the weight of the z4, and it’s chassis.

I love mine for what it is, not what it’s not :)

To clarify, the point I was making that an auto box'd E89 is worth more than a manual E89..the intial price differential on new purchase has trickled down with subsequent used sales..more so than any other optional equipment like idrive..

Since an E89 auto can be driven as a manual on the paddles or stick as dicussed many times its a mute point IMHO

You don't get people getting precious with the 11 plus things that DSC does to aid the driver that a 'normal' foot brake wouldn't have.. :tumbleweed:

I don’t think a manual box is a negative as there are some who want it but the fact is most people these days don’t want a manual and this reflected in the sales figures when new not only of Z4s but also actual ‘proper’ sports cars like Ferraris Lambos etc where the vast majority sold are autos.

As for those saying an auto isn’t a true drivers car well what about F1? I don’t see any manuals there. I agree though, some cars should be manuals but a BMW isn’t one of them. Their manuals aren’t great and in most cases the auto box suits their engines better.

£14-16,000 depending on condition and how quick you need to sell IMO.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

F31 320i. Good car.
E89 20i Now fully dried
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!
Mazda3 sold
Tatty old R56 Mini Cooper. Money pit!

WBAC valuation + 20% is a good starting place for a classified advert.

2 minutes to find out.
