How to add aux to stock radio

plenty wrote: Thu Mar 09, 2023 7:36 pm I installed aux using a cheap eBay cable and socket (which visually looks identical to the Fruity setup, including the red cable). It works, but there is noticeable white noise through the speakers on aux mode, which increases with revs. Can anyone with the Fruity setup confirm no such issue?
You need one of these...

Installed my Fruity aux cable yesterday and can confirm no noticeable white noise in aux mode - I'm using it with a bluetooth adapter

Should add, that I've gone down this route of connecting bluetooth through aux as a temporary measure. I actually have Grom connected through CD changer cables, but following a change to a different OEM headunit the CD changer cables are no longer recognised on my pre-facelift DSP system - connects, but no sound :o It's a known issue and needs a bit of coding - will have to wait a while to sort.

How to add aux to stock radio

I'm currently in the process of switching from the DVD Navigation OEM head unit to the BMW business CD player. Why? Because the External Navigation screen has packed up and the head unit has no built in display.
My current setup uses the aux input which I was planning on using with the replacement BMW business CD player but it doesn't seem to have the aux option when cycling through.
Does anyone know if there is a way to program the head unit and enable aux input?

When the cable is put into the headunit Aux just automatically appears. No programming needed.

Thanks Usel! I have switched the units over and connected the cables, the Radio and CD are both working on the new unit but AUX still isn't an option, I'll try plugging in the 2.5mm jack to something but I'm not sure that will kick it into life.

For the business radio to detect the Aux the aux cable must have 300k ohms of resistance. The resistance is what tell the radio that the car has the Aux plug. I'm not sure that the SAT/NAV required the 300k ohm resistance so yours may not have the resister installed.

My aux cable also came from Fruity Cables and works perfectly. Perhaps contact Rory and explain the issue.

Thanks for the responses!

I worked out that in my particular case the AUX feature wasn't an option, the BMW business unit was from a 2005 model.
I purchased the same model BMW business head unit from a 2008 vehicle and the aux kicked in.
It may have been a feature that needed coding but I didn't have the kit or the know how.

That's strange, mine is a 2003 and all I did was plug the cable into the radio and it recognized the aux cable.

Ditto with my 2004 radio.

Same for mine as well. In the end, i got a bluetooth module to piggy back off my 6 CD changer, so now i can listen to higher quality tunes (Noticeable difference over AUX) plus have the ability to control volume and skip tracks via my MFSW. also able to accept/decline and end calls via the steering wheel. all for 80 euros. I would recommend going down that path if you have the 6CD changer. If you dont have the multi function wheel, you can do all those functions with the previous and next buttons on the Head Unit too
