Post by True-Blue » Sun Mar 19, 2023 6:02 pm

Per thread title, does anyone have proTool within a sensible distance of Bristol (an hour or so) that would be prepared to code out my active suspension please?

I don’t really want to go to the expense of getting everything I would need for ProTool as I’m only likely to use it for this :?

Happy to pay for someone to do this

Many thanks.

How much is protool? I thought it was about £80.

I have coding software tools, but not looking to take a chance messing with someone else's car for the price of a few beers.

Thats’s the software licence, I think you also need a laptop or Android device and/or a cable or Wi-Fi dongle.

I use the term coding, but I think in reality it’s a case of ‘un-checking’ a few boxes for this

Ahhh right.

I mostly use bimmercode - if you want to figure out how to change whatever it is you need, you are welcome to pop over & use my gear to make the changes.

The things you need to alter are the same no matter the tool (protool / NCS expert / bimmercode) - but you would need to know them to do it.

I'm in Reading.

Looks like all you need to do is change over to coilovers (I guess you have done that), and then update the following:

EDCK_ALIVE_ZAEHLER set to nicht_aktiv
EDCK_ID_MONITOR set to nicht_aktiv.

This will stop you getting the fault light in the dash every time you drive :)

2 minute job - if you wanna drive over I will do it for free.

Fantastic, that would be great

I’m off to London in the next half an hour or so, but would be great if we could get this done later this week?

This was the reply I had from @B21 regarding what he did;

So I removed adaptive suspension from the VO and CAS after removing the adaptive ECU and tying and bagging the old connectors..

You will need to remove the adaptive suspension option from the VO and CAS as well..otherwise you’ll get a different set of error messages,.
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard..

Yep & physically disconnect the ECU - I'm assuming that has been done.

Just got to London!

Yes the ECU will be removed, I’m fairly sure I know where it is but will investigate

Massive thank you to @matsmith749

Adaptive suspension coded out without any changes being necessary to the VO.

My car is a manual 30i, but I can’t see how the engine spec or gearbox type would make any difference to this process.

Pleasure to meet you - nice easy job TBH.

Full diagnostics done before coding / coded & then test driven / another full diagnostic after.

No codes thrown, messages gone from the dash & idrive.

Happy days!

Everything is simple when you have the right tools & knowledge :)

There remains this 'grey area' around the VO (Vehicle Order) when you are coding. Some say you need to make the change in the VO - but we didn't, and it worked.

My understanding is that changing the VO effectively changes multiple steps within the various ECUs - if you can identify the steps you can make them direct in the ECUs & the effect is exactly the same.

It's what we did to code out the adaptive suspension, and also what I did to sort out my MMI box (again everyone said the VO change was needed).

I wish there was a cast iron guide for all this stuff!
