Maf / Map sensors

Post by Cavey1638 » Tue Mar 14, 2023 4:34 pm

Hello All,

I have a 10 plate 35i which every now and then is a bit lumpy on tickover.

I know my car has a Map sensor on the inlet manifold near to the bulk head. Does my car also have a Maf sensor? Went to BMW to order a Maf sensor and bloke was not very helpful,

No fault codes coming up.

Regards

Chris

No MAF sensor..lumpy idle often symptom of coked up inlets on N54 or too narrow spark plug gaps it has been tuned..
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

No, stock car and as we speak I have a new set of plugs to go in her tomorrow. Thanks for the reply. Assumption being the manifold pressure sensor does a similar job to a mass air flow sensor.

On previous cars especially my old T5 this was a symptom of the Maf sensor failing which was after the air cleaner.

Regards

Chris

Yes MAP is broadly functionally to MAF..some cars do have both..

I’ve wasted quite a bit of time on E89 troubleshooting failed’ sensors only to find more systemic issues..

I’d be surprised if the MAP sensor has failed without giving a code.

As I said N54s do coke up the inlet ports quite badly depending on driving history..

Lumpy tick over is primary indicator.

My lumpy 23i N52 engine was oil in spark plug hole due leaking cam cover gasket or warped.. After few seconds when alternator kicked in 14v would run smooth.
