Ditching 326s / RFTs & Need Advice Please

Post by Dazza4 » Mon Feb 27, 2023 11:18 pm

Firstly, I’m really sorry to start a new tyre thread - yep I agree with all of the groans, I’m tired too :headbang: But having read a lot of posts lately, sadly I’m still unclear and as it’s a big investment, I really would appreciate any feedback in layman’s terms.

Currently have original 326 alloys (all need refurbishing) and the following with Potenza RFTs: Fronts 225/35 R19 88Y and Rears 255/30 R19 91Y.

Looking to replace with new Veemann alloys and non Run Flats. Objective: add more comfort to the ride, save my back, have no rubbing/speeedo accuracy issues and enjoy the car even more. All of this is a relatively large outlay, hence this post.

Anyway, thinking of sticking with 19” alloys, and a premium brand tyre (MP4S, Contis) what’s the best option to achieve the above objectives;

1. Stick with the same side/profile etc as above on non RFTs?
2. Go to Fronts 225/40/19 and Rears 255/35/19 non RFTs? Is this one profile up?
3. Or go to Fronts 235/35/19 and Rears 265/30/19 (suggestion by BM Autosport)
————

Or admit I prefer comfort over looks and switch to 18s?

I struggle with all the technical speak, so appreciate any advice. FYI went on that will it fit web site - didn’t help me as out of my depth.

Cheers for any constructive feedback

In terms of improving comfort worst to best

19” runflats
18” runflats
19” stock sizes MP4S
19” stock sizes SC7
19” stock sizes Assy 5/6
same sequence with 235/35 265/30
same sequence with 225/40 255/35
18” same sequence

FWIW I doubt almost anyone would notice any detrimental effects on handling with 18” vs 19”

Obviously not every Tyre is available in every size…SC7s only really a 19” fitment for example ..

If you are going with new alloys 8.5j and 9.5j give you more options on tyre widths

A 35 can easily overwhelm a lot of tyres…
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard..
