Good evening from Northern Ireland....

Post by Madcatgrafix » Tue Nov 29, 2022 12:48 am

Just bought my 1st z4, as a cheap winter runabout, whilst the 370z is getting upgrades. A '04 3l m sport with 140k, but full s/h. Really liking how quiet it is, compared to my mx5, but quickly developing a strong love hate relationship with this new addition to the yard.

Love how it drives (especially since I fitted coilovers), but my god, in only 6 weeks of ownership, it's developed some amount of issues grrrr. Hopefully joining the forum, will help me work through the niggles, for as little as possible.

Work done so far:
1. Coilovers kit, new drop links and top mounts all round (after hearing knocking at back).
2. Got rid of the 19s (looked too big), and refurbished some 18s.
3. Fitted set of carbon skin kidney grills.
4. New front disks and pads.

To do list (fast getting longer, every time I drive to work):
1. Fit new rear disks / pads.
2. Xenon Headlights full of condensation, and passenger dried out / resealed successfully, but driver headlight, despite 3 attempts, has now blown the xenon projector, (can't see where the water is getting in (even took the bumper off / headlights out, but within 24 hours, it's full of water running down inside of glass again). New back plate seal and silicone sealant used, on 3rd attempt, but quickly thinking new aftermarket lights, the way forward.
3. Damp in driver's front carpet now becoming obvious.
4. Weird tick over speed 300 revs rise, once I touch the brake pedal?
5. Mint enough std leather memory electric seats, but fancy moving up to e86 m sport bigger bolster seats.
6. Electric mirrors won't adjust.
7. Starting to feel abit loose at front, so need to get that checked.
8. Stainless cat back exhaust.
9. Replacement driver front wing, as rust starting on arch, then prob a good detail.
10. Lsd to be fitted.

Anyways, excuse many many questions, moving forward! :tumbleweed:

Mike.

Welcome.
Mirror adjustment is a common issue due to iffy contacts on the 4-way switch. You maybe able to clean them up but only long term solution is a new switch unit

Idle speed changing sounds like an air leak somewhere in the brake vacuum servo pipes?

Hi and welcome aboard.

The M-Sport seats were an option. Then with the 2006 facelift BMW created 2 trim levels, SE and Sport. The M-Sport seats were standard on the Sport models. They're very desirable and used ones can fetch the thick end of £1K if electric and heated.

There are a few people who break one from time to time which can help with wings, etc. but shipping to NI might be expensive.

Anyway good luck getting it how you want it.
Coupes because stunning!
Current - Silver Grey MC, Imola Red heated Nappa & carbon trim. Aeros, H & R Coil-overs, 224s, OE Strut brace, Nav, cup-holders, DSP Hi-Fi, pdc, cruise, MFSW, no CDV! E90 330i daily
Gone - Montego Blue
Gone - Ruby Black

Productive day off, so far! 20mm rear and 15mm front hubcentric spacers / longer tuner bolts fitted, so the 18s fill the arches better, and got the 17" style 71s, split, refurbed, and spokes done charcoal, although won't be putting those on, until spring. Now, back to that troublesome driver's headlight (part 4)....🤢

Nice to see a fellow NI resident when joining the forum myself! :D I wonder if it's something to do with the air here about loving the cars but developing far too many issues after buying them...
