How to remove interlock cable from steering column

Post by spazmochad » Sat Feb 04, 2023 2:36 pm

In the process of getting my steering column out.

On the last cable, the interlock, but no idea the correct way to go about removing it.

Does anyone know the procedure?

Never seen that

Assume it’s auto box?

I’ve only dealt with manual car columns

From pictures of replacements, looks like it just unscrews on the silver/gold bit, will go find a tiny spanner

Do you mean column replacement or just the cable?
If it’s the column then just unscrew the cable from behind the ignition switch.

Just the cable . But I have no clue where it starts and whee it ends. Do I need to take apart the ignition? Where does it get connected to in the shifter area? How much is involved? Thanks

So the picture you show is the part you unscrew, is that the rear of the ignition? Not sure what/where that picture is from ?

Not my photo, but if you take the lower steering column shroud off then look up from underneath you will see the cable attaches on the right side just a bit lower down than where the the key goes into the barrel

Hi,
Never done it myself, but in TIS two documents, 32 32 170 and 25 16 175 explain the procedure to change and adjust the cable. Won’t post copyrighted material on the site, but maybe you can find them. Too complicated to describe in written, you need the pictures in TIS.

Technical Information System, BMW’s acronym for their technical documents. They are copyrighted material so won’t post any links on the forum.
