Hello Everyone - I just inherited my first Z4, pictures to follow.
It looks like I inherited a small little nightmare. I recently took it to the shop and they found trans fluid in the BCM. They got the car to at least start shifting from 1-3 but still have an issue with it.
Anyone ever encounter this problem?
I am going to need all your expert guidance to make this Z up and running. Motor is in good condition.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Hopefully someone with some knowledge of the SMG will be able to offer some advice, but in any case we'd love to see a photo or two of your car!

Hello and welcome to the forum, yes, photos please
Now, Sterling grey Z4 2.2 with cup holders, stubby aerial and sport seats. Roadsters ‘cause they’re great with the roof down.
Ford Anglia, Red Sprite, a few MG midgets, MGB Roadster and yellow Ford Capri, all gone many years now.

Heavens, that's reminded me of something from the dim and distant. I think it was a TD5 Disco that I looked after for a friend that suffered from a similar problem; the injector wiring IIRC. Basically fluid (engine oil in my case) wicked up the wiring and desposited itself in the connector. I think the general solution was a new bit of loom but I think I siliconed up the offending plugs and reused them. I wish I could remember more. In this case I presume a connector in the mechatronic unit in the gearbox that's the source.
