Very badly dried bird poo...

Post by Mattyc531 » Sat Jan 28, 2023 6:52 pm

Hi all,

I've come back from holiday and unfortunately have a pretty large bird crap on my car, could have been there around 3 weeks I think. I've tried washing it off but it really seems stuck in there, I can even feels it's raised and has slight bubbles in. Is my paint screwed or can I salvage? Pics attached

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Why do I always read these posts just before tea!

bigwinn told me a trick I haven't had a chance to try yet.
Clean it off as well as you can. If it's left a mark then get a hair dryer on it. Seems it will warm the lacquer enough for it to move and smooth out the mark. Stuart can probably give more detail

Looks like seagull shite to me.
I would just keep it moist for a good few hours with a wet rag or similar. Then a couple of 'wet wipes' should get it off. Your paint should be fine but if there is any 'bloom' try T-cut.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

If the seagull has managed to nab a bag of fish n chips from some poor unsuspecting tw@t walking along the promenade then its belly will have generated a bucket full of acid which probably now constitutes 10-20% of the composition of it's plop which now adorns your paintwork.

Warm water and washing up liquid will dispatch the caked-on crap easily but if it's etched a mark into the laquer then you'll need to crank up the DA.

If it does leave a mark deffo go the heat route

I tried polishers and all sorts to no avail

Got a small heat gun (or missus hairdryer) on it and kept the heat on and moving

After about 5 mins it literally faded all of a sudden and went

The car was covered in them as it had been a south coast car

An afternoons work and looked good as new

Ditto, that's what I do and we have lots of seagulls down here. :headbang:

As others have suggested if it leaves a dent in your lacquer warm it carefully. Someone was doing heat packs. Not sure if they caught on.

Here you go. Autoglym do them. :)

We have heat packs that wifey got from somewhere to keep our coffee warm on those roof down winter drives. I think they are for muscle aches. Most likely from Amazon.
