A £2000 paint job? That wouldn't be any better than what he has now. A car like that needs a decent paint job.
There is no saying the car needs a full respray, could be certain panels.

There is a lot of speculation with this car, I hope the seller finds a buyer soon

This car could be a bargain for someone.

I’ve personally resurrected some terrible paintwork in the past, that most would think is beyond hope. It’s amazing what can be achieved with the right kit, experience and patience.

I’m not in the market for an E86, but if I was I’d be asking for photo’s of the paint and I’d make the effort to view. If I was nearer I’d go an have a look and offer to do a ‘test spot’

O.P. Have a look at page two of this thread, are the scratches any worse than the scratches that were on the bonnet of my E89 when I bought it? There’s also a before & after photo for this area.

Completely agree.

Was very similar with my imola M, I dont agree with previous comments of imola hides anything its awful imo. Took a lot of work and I did a very similar process to your thread above and it came up a treat

It's all down to preference. Driver vs garage queen. You could spend 6k having a paint job then not want to drive it with worry of damage. 65k isnt a lot but its not low either so I would buy with the intention of enjoying it thoroughly as that enjoyment will certainly damage it further with the low slung design of the car.

Amazing the results you can get with touch up and the correct process of application and blending.

I’m not a paint expert, it was just a guess as to making it or getting it to an acceptable level? I suspect a “decent” paint job is 4,5,6k? 🤷🏽‍♂️
Full respray done properly (ie glass out etc), starts from £5,000.

Highly doubt this car will need that though (unless it is to be stored as a garage queen).

As previously mentioned, respraying the front bumper and a good mop should suffice.

Let’s also not forget that when respraying a car things can go wrong (resulting in back and forth with the bodyshop which can be quite cumbersome). Also that respray paint will not last as long as factory paint (more often than not it is softer, which means stonechips come back quicker!)

I’ve seen many cars that have been repainted, and can count on my hands how many have been done to a standard that is as good as or ‘better’ than factory paint.

It’s a personal thing for me but I would only repaint a car if it was really bad (ie rusting) and could be garaged thereafter. Repainting a car which will be parked on the drive makes no sense whatsoever.

As mentioned by others this looks like a useable example. Not one to be repainted and stored as a garage queen.

Collecting Cars with a reserve (as mentioned) is probably the best way to go on this.
