Catalytic Converter stolen outside house

Hi all. My first post. Was recommended to drop a post here in the hope of getting some help finding a catalytic converter for my Z4 e85 2.2.
It's been my pride and joy for almost 2 years.

I've called all the local Scrap Yards and had no luck, tried the local BMW salvagers and nothing. Don't want to have to pay for an original BMW CAT as it will set me back a small fortune. Anybody have any recommendation on the best places to look around Central London or does anybody have a solid lead or is selling one themselves?

If I can't source one at a decent price second hand ( so far the best I've had is close to 1000 GBP I'm likely going to give up and claim the insurance as the price of a CAT is nearly the same as the car is worth and it may happen again.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear that bud. Hopefully someone on here will be able to help.

Imagine a used one must be a fair bit though otherwise they wouldn’t be worth stealing.

I’ve seen YouTube vids of them going under the car just on a quick jack. Risky for a few quid

Would it not be cheaper to buy a full oem exhaust system, just a thought may make the car sound a little better too.
I havent checked this out just thinking out loud really.

Or an aftermarket system. I saw a lovely new stainless steel one in [ref]Joycey[/ref]’s garage a while ago which he said only cost a few (maybe even a couple of) hundred quid and he knows his onions.

How the heck did they get under the car?? I struggle to get a low level jack under mine

I do have a 2.5 breaker inbound which I would happily sell the exhaust and cats from

Hmmm I wonder how they source their stock? :(

They are brand new catalic converters made with different internals to OEM Cats with less precious metals so I assume they buy them from various companies and suppliers. Certainly not stolen or even worth stealing by comparison.

The Cats are in the Manifold....how did they do it?....

Cut them out with electric saws and girders it takes like 60 seconds, very common with scumbags stealing them unfortunately and most get away with it too!

Even to cut them out its near impossible. .with cover on bottom and access from top very difficult......unless car was parked out the way and they had time.

Must be the secondary cats mid exhaust, not the ones pre sensor from the manifold

Well if it is the secondary cats everyone on here seems to go on about removing them anyway so can’t it just be straight piped?

I'm as intrigued as everyone else as to how they were removed....?
I think even a pair of tick-ayz-pigshit pikeys would think twice before tackling a zed, unless it was conveniently already up on a lift somewhere.
Do tell.

Quick as that on a 4x4 with plenty of clearance underneath.

Just as quick on a normal car too, it takes seconds to jack a car up, these guys are quicker than any mechanic i know!

I have had a catalytic converter stolen, so i know first hand about it!

As a few have said on here though, the primary cats are on the manifold pipes and pretty out of the way. OP - do you mean the centre secondary cat?
