Hi Gents
Just to share, some nice gent posted this in FB Z4 group. Seems like a used in good condition frm ebay is about $150. Think its a good idea if it really works to quickly purchase 1 to keep as spare.

Cheers

I saw that you can buy a brand new replacement motor now on Ebay
Chinese but the BMW ones probably are as well, I think they were about £50.

Other than flooding, these seem pretty reliable, i wouldn't bother having a spare.

The motor I saw on eBay was for E85 not E89. I have searched a nd searched again but cannot find at the same price, a new Chinese one is now £100+
Sorry about that but I was surprised at the time as I spent about 170 for a refurbed one 2/3 years ago. Would buy new motor now if I had to.

I wouldn't fancy a chinese unit.

Buy cheap and buy twice!

So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

It was Amazon where I saw the replacement motors for £50 not EBay
The trouble with a refurb motor is that the motors are crimped together and the crimps have to be drilled out to disassemble

Hi guys,

In the meantime I have tested this Audi A5(B8) hydraulic pump intensively on my hydraulic test bench:

The behavior of the pumps is not remotely comparable! The AUDI A5 pump must therefore never be used as a replacement for a defective Z4 E89 pump.

In what way does it differ from the e89 version?

The pairs of hydraulic cylinders are moving different compared to the E89 ones when using the exact same solenoid sequences.

And there is another remarkable difference:

The hydraulic hoses of our E89 are fitted into the E89 hydraulic pump from both sides, whereas the Audi A5 pump has to be fitted from only 1 side.

Putting the A5 pump into an E89 would be very difficult due to too short hydraulic hoses from the left.

But this doesn't matter due the following test result, I got confirmed once again today:
