Vibration noise

Post by mtb50 » Mon Jan 02, 2023 4:41 pm

Hello to all. I'm the new kid on the block ok old man on the block. I've purchased a Z4 2003 3.0 130k auto So far I've replaced the Disa valve, cleaned the idle control valve, and waiting for a crankcase breather hose. At and only at 1750 rpm there is a vibration noise coming from behind engine only under power will not do it in neutral. Sounds like a really mad bumblebee. Any help would be appreciated.

Vibration noise

Welcome!

May be difficult but try to record the sound

If it’s under load in that area it may be clutch/flywheel related but hard to say without hearing it

I’ve had head shields work loose and corrode before

That’s worth a look especially at the one that sits drivers side (uk rhd car) side

I'm not sure what a head shield is. Were is this located on the driver side?

You can’t miss it

It’s a bright silver aluminium shield that sits on the side of the engine where the exhausts are- check that’s not loose?

Think it was meant to read heat shield

If anyone has had this problem this is what I found. I replaced the passenger moter mount and no more noise.
