Xenon turned pink

Post by Matt1 » Tue Jan 03, 2023 9:21 am

Hi - a quick search on here suggests that my near side (now pink) xenon headlight bulb has probably failed. Last post on this topic seems to be about 7 years ago. Anybody got any recent recommendations for a 16 plate bulb replacement? Halfords or does it have to be main dealer? What bulbs do folks recommend? TIA

Did you swap the bulbs to prove it was that and not the ballast? Bit expensive to replace by trial so a quick check would eliminate that

Thanks, no I didn’t. I’ve only ever changed halogen bulbs before. Is it a similar process with Xenon’s?

You need to be very careful not to touch the glass of the bulb as leaving any residue could cause it to pop.
I always also disconnect the battery when messing about with xenons.

As Chris said - take the negative lead off the battery first as that is not the type of circuitry you want to work with whilst there is power to it.

I use Philips https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273244970711
Easiest way to change the bulb, wheel off, arch liner unbolt and pull back.
So not a 5 minute job.

These Osram night breaker bulbs are rated by most evaluations as the best..but expensive

So good I have two spare sets (must have got keen pushing buttons on the keyboard)
