Yep, definitely agree it's a no brainer to spend £hundreds on different tyres because your driveway isn't gritted.

After watching numerous clips of people crashing their cars in slow motion in that little bit of snow you had in the South, I bet they’re all wishing they’d invested in tyres suited to the weather. And that’s the point, you can choose not to drive if it’s snowing unless you’re already out and it starts to snow.
I don’t understand the expense logic either, tyres wear, so the overall cost if you keep a car for three years is not significantly different if you do reasonable miles, the outlay is the alloys but they can be had cheaply enough, certainly less than your insurance excess.
However if you only keep your car for a few weeks, or rather spend your money on shiny bling rather than trying to make it stop in cold conditions, we’ll what can I say
