I’ll be keeping this one for a while unless it drops a massive bill on me - it’s just superb VFM, don’t think I could get any thing better for the same price

2.5 is the sweet spot for value, but a 3.0 is more fun.

Depends where you live. Round here the 3.0 is no quicker on the back roads and a 2.5 can be used to much more of it’s ability. In fact the most fun I’ve had is with a 2.2. The smaller engines can flow through the bends but the 3.0 just becomes a brake hard, point and shoot thing. Quick and fun but not so much satisfaction

That’s great to hear. I think I might venture out in mine tomorrow, now that I’ve discovered the weedy one litre engine in my Hyundai i30 doesn’t generate enough heat to warm the cabin in this weather :x I kid ye not.

Had mine for about 9 years, it's a 3.0 auto. This photo is about 2 years old after just having the 107's refurbished.

I have 15mm on the rear and 10mm on fronts.

I have driven a lot of automatics so I am used to the positives and negatives. I am not a racer and just potter about mostly but occasionally I like to put my foot down.

The auto is lightning quick off the line and does it every time without fail, so joining roundabouts, pulling out of junctions and traffic lights you can always zoom out whatever settings you have enabled.

The auto also suits me because I find its a car you either drive fast or slowly and anything inbetween is a bit of a let down. On a motorway cruising at 65mph if you suddenly want to make a gap so need to push to 75mph to overtake you have to prepare for it. If you just lazily put your foot down and not hit the kick down it can take a while to get upto speed. A quick knock of the auto stick across to hit sport and once past knock it back over is needed. So what I'm trying to say is that if you're driving slowly and then want to be fast you will be disappointed.

However on a twisty country lane with limited long straights, sports button on and manual gears you can have a lot of fun. Usually 2nd and 3rd are the only gears needed and this is where I enjoy myself. Hitting the limiter in 2nd will auto change to 3rd so you can just concentrate on the steering.

I have never driven a manual Z4 so I don't know any different but overall hand on head the Z4 3.0 just doesn't really feel that fast a car. You have to drive in the right scenarios for it to feel fast. I think it is mostly down to gearing which I don't think the manual would make much difference . I say this because 0-100 is ok, once over 100 it actually surprises you at how fast it still accelerates and then it becomes a quick car. 100-140 feels as quick to get to as 60-100.

P.S I do really love driving it on twisty country roads and then the relaxed trip home down the main road.
P.P.S Top down driving at night is 8)
