Socket with red blinking light

Post by perttu » Sun Dec 04, 2022 6:27 pm

Hey guys,

I was drinking beer in the garage with my hibernated zed (the usual weekend routine), when I noticed something strange. In the dashboard, under AC controls and above roof controls, there is a socket with blinking red light. I've never noticed this before. What's the socket for? Red blinking lights usually don't mean any good  . Video available here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/QgU4DRpP8hDLC1yX9.

Sounds like the Aux socket in that position.
Possibly something linked to a permanent live anyway?
If your zed is laid up then I'd make sure it's on a battery maintainer or find out what fuse that socket is on and pull it.

Always happy to help if I can.

If the forum helped you, why not help the forum back. Thats the Z4 way!

Thanks, never needed the aux yet, so never noticed it  . Definitely somehing strange going on with the electrics now. A relay also started ticking (at least in sounds like so) in the fuse box or thereabouts, need to investigate more. The battery has been on a CTEK charger since hibernation and last time I checked, it was giving good voltage.

Wrong side of the panel for the usual location of Aux socket
Is it actually a socket? - not clear in the posted image
Anything happen if you push it in?

Here's a closeup of the thing. Image. I'm starting to feel a bit paranoid here... . Previous owner definitely installed some other aftermarket stuff, so maybe this is an addition to that list, that he forgot to mention about.

That looks similar to an aftermarket immobiliser that I either had in a Cossie or an Astra Gte. You engaged a small plastic fob, with two small holes in the bottom, against a panel like that and this allowed the car to be started. If similar and you don’t need to do anything to get it too start all good
