Thought I was going mad yesterday, fitted new dust cap on stub axle then new febi wheel bearing tapped it on with 36mm socket, new nut fitted all ok until I tightened it down. The bearing was solid would not turn at,anyway after taking off bearing and refitting(which didn’t do it a lot of good)both inner races cane out plus internal oil seal spring, all together now though and packed with more grease.
Problem was stub axle dust cap was pressing against bearing stopping it from turning, width of dust cap is 10mm so I took 1.5mm off it so now spinning ok.Problem solved hopefully.
Also new 325mm wheel backing plate decided it wanted to be joined together anymore so another little repair there.
One bit of good news 325mm plate works with my 16 inch winter wheels while I refurb my 108’s.(I read on here 17inch is the minimum with 325mm plate)
Luckily I can do all this work myself, god knows how much a garage would charge, making these old beemers too expensive to maintain imho.

Front wheel bearing issue
Thanks for posting - cool to see your pictures.
Just a random thought, but I'll bet your 16 inch rims clear because their what some call "steelies" - I suspect most alloy rims in that size would need too much more thickness in the barrel, and your happy result wouldn't happen. Nice job that you weren't afraid to try it out !

Front wheel bearing issue
I’m not sure about alloy 16inch fitment I’m just glad my steelies fit which means I’m in less of a rush to finish my 108s and I can tackle the rears also, gold wheels on the front and silver on the back won’t look so cool.Z4Mariner wrote: ↑Sun Dec 04, 2022 10:19 pm Thanks for posting - cool to see your pictures.
