Ride height

Post by spitfun » Wed Nov 30, 2022 6:01 pm

I just replaced all 4 springs, now the front of the car is 3/4" higher than the front. I did a search on the forum and looks like 26" from fender to ground is pretty standard. My front is unfortunately at 26 3/4",I was sure to tighten the suspension tension struts on the ground so I know that's not it. My question is do the strut springs settle? The springs (all 4) are Swedish by Lesjofors, which is a OEM supplier to BMW.

Have you driven it?
Sounds a silly question, but the front suspension swings inwards a bit when you lift it up.
You need to drive it a short way for it to settle back in to place.

Yes,I drove it,then I went home and loosened those tension struts-then I drove it while they were loose (thought maybe they were stuck) a bit, then I tightened them back up no luck.

What did your car come from the factory with? There are quite a few different suspension options available.

Hmmm, I suspect then that you are stuck with that attitude.
Are they definitely the correct ones on the front?
The difference you mention seems very close to the difference between standard and sport.

Contrary to what some folks state the springs do settle with age

Stock settings are equal ride height front and rear

Normally if you replace the front or rears you replace the others all from same supplier

Seen a couple of E89s with odd ride hiegjts as a result of mixing different vendors springs on different corners .

Thats what I was getting at! I'm not familiar with the options available on that car though.

Did you replace the rubber spring seats? If you did then yes they will drfinately settle.

The springs are all from Lesjofors. I went to their website to make sure I had the correct part numbers because I was seeing conflicting info from one website to another. See below. The car is a sDrive35i with a manual transmission and Msport Adaptive suspension. The correct springs were ordered (4008514 front and 4208486 rear) ,I am wondering if they sent me the wrong ones (there are no model numbers on the springs)?

I don’t believe “for vehicles with m technology” means Msport. You need “for vehicles with sports suspension”. M Technology refers to M cars.
Happy to be proven wrong but that’s what I worked out when I bought new Suplex springs for my Msport car - the Suplex web site gave the length of each type of spring so you could work out which was which.

The words M Technology and Soorts Suspension are used interchangeably in most vendors listings see Autodoc page for 35i as an example
