I’m sure this has been discussed before, but I’ve searched and can’t find it!

I want to change my aerial base for DAB/FM aerial base and I can’t find how to get at it?

I’ve been in through the boot nothing.. I’ve taken off the plastic panels behind the passenger seat nothing! I’ve even take the plastic wheel arch liner out still nothing!!!
HELP!!!

Wow, can’t believe no realises on this. I want a stubbie to replace the whip so could also use some

Can’t help the OP but for yours you just screw the whippy off from the base of the ariel on the outside of the car

What do you want? Multiple replies in 5 minutes?
There was a reply to your query in 35 minutes. Then you posted the query again 29 minutes later.

The OP's question was irrelevant, as all E89s have FM aerials and most have DAB too. Posting a "I want to know stuff" thread as your first on the forum tends not to get a very good reception (pardon the pun)!

Obviously a time delay too as I told him how to change whippy for stubby 30 mins before on how to do it. Even quoted him so notification of reply 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

Hey guys, apologies, no idea what happened here with the multiple posts, totally unintentional. Appreciate the responses, and to clarify, I meant I was surprised no one had replied to the op as my view is that everyone here is super helpful. Hope that clears things up - no intention to cause issues. Not my first post and won’t be my last either 😎

Thanks for this - I did think that but didn’t want to screw it up (no pun intended)

For a stubby aerial, it’s a case of unscrewing the whippy and screwing in the new short aerial. Best to go with the BMW Sport Antenna. The whippy is a very tight fit, and required some force to loosen.

Thanks for this, I’m going to order one Monday. Reception on the radio isn’t great, anyone know if this can be improved or if I’m stuck with that..

If reception on FM is poor it could be the diversity unit that is u/s

Ah, funnily enough I have an old diversity unit in the garage, will check the model numbers. Is the the only likely culprit? I can get stations, just tends to go out of tune quickly

Well it’s the head unit, the diversity unit or the aerials..

On FM opening or closing the roof changes the aerial…try that …if no change then I guess it’s the head unit or the diversity unit..when you say out of tune …what do you mean ?

Thanks, that’s really helps. So, stations are ok when initially
Tuned then driving relatively short distances either get crackly or disappear. Tend to use the media drive because of this

So its either the headunit or the diversity..my guess the head unit..but only when you do A/B swap will you know..
