Internal boot release button retrofit
I understand the missing internal boot release button is a "feature" of all European E89s, and I'd like to correct this. Can anyone tell me the (at least approximate) procedure? I have the place for the button (a nice depression where it shoud be, probably covered by a cap), so I guess I need the button itself (61319200316, if I understand correctly) and maybe some wiring (or is it already there)? Is the wiring somethig I shoud buy, or is it something simple I can make by myself? Is it difficult to wire, like a DIY job? I'm not experienced at fiddling with cars, but maybe this part is not more compicated than computers, which I have assembled and repaired a lot of?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!

This is an interesting one.
Is it an electronic release or mechanical (i.e. Pull to release).
A mechanical release would make more sense in case of emergency.
It's something that I've been thinking about as well.

I assume this doesn't get around the problem of a failed normal boot release mechanism in any way?

Well if you do my mod, you can open the boot with roof in any position. You could fit a switch in that blank to do the job.

AFAIK it is not. Even my full equipped German E89 lacks of this button.
And I've stopped retrofitting it years ago when I realized, that even the driver seat has to be taken out of the car to get access to the internal ground connector below a styrol plate on the floor.

It's a bit different.
Yes, the central(!) locking motor will be started by connecting pin12 to +12V. This is always sufficient to open the trunk lid, even if the roof stucks in any position.
But(1), this motor has to be technically ok and connected to the wiring loom.
But(2), till now I've never seen or heard of a non-working central motor. From my experience, the pin12 method is always sufficient, no additional wire/cable is required on the boot locking system. It takes only a max. of 3 minutes to get access to pin12 with the help of a simple screwdriver.
