used airbag sensor fitted, now another fault 982b
Hi, I just replaced my left side airbag sensor after various faults came up (probably caused by a lot of water ingress from the hood, now fixed). I used a second-hand part. It cleared the original fault but now I have 982b incorrect chassis number. Several BMW specialists have said it can't be programmed in cos BMW add a lock to prevent the use of s/h parts. Someone must be able to get over the lock cos loads of sellers flog these to loads of us cos they're always failing.
Anyone been able to do it or can recommend someone who can (south of england)?
Cheers

It needs to be coded to the car. Did one last week.

Yeah although the specialists say it can't be done, ???, they have the right gear but say they can't get over the lock. How did you do it?

I have a genuine ICOM interface, purchased from BMW, so it's identical to what they connect to your car, however they aren't allowed access to the "expert mode" which allows programming of used units into different vehicles. I do have access to it.

Sounds good except you're too far away from me. I'll have to find someone closer to me, anyone?

Where you based?
What needs coding? I used a guy to code my s/h airbag ECU. Vin numbers didn’t match...

Near Gatwick, Sussex/Surrey spookily enough. Who did you use?
I need the ECU to recognise the new (used) airbag sensor and it's asking for the correct chassis number

Hi Mike
Where are you from?
I have a 2004 e85 Z4 which I have replaced the heating controller on and now have a “incorrect chassis” code with Airbag light which I need programming / coding to the car to turn off the light..
Really appreciate it if you can help
Thanks Jon

Same problem with a change of Vin number in the main centre module on a 3.0l 2003 Z4 in Cardiff, had a go using NCS Expert, Winkpf and Dis software without success. Anyone in South Wales that can do this?

Wow, if colb can't do it, it must be tricky.
I noticed Mike used a genuine ICOM interface, but I wonder if a Chinese copy such as this could do the job ? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000037 ... 18204637_8

Have looked into ICOM and found out that the Chinese units are clones and can have faults from new so best avoided. Not given up trying to use NCS Expert, Winkpf ,Tool32 and Dis but don't have access to the problem car to have another go. May well start plying around with these systems on mine but reluctant to do so as I have nothing wrong on mine.
