Wrapping steering trim
Hi all,
Has anyone vinyl wrapped the trimmed on the steering wheel?
The lower (highlighted yellow) looks particular tricky and I would guess I would need use edge finishing tape? Any advise would be much appreciated.

The other alternative is to hydro dip the parts ,
I’m doing some bits on my own car , and hopefully a few bits for forum members too , have a look at , hydro dipping engine bay - in e89 section…. If you fancy having a go , send us some pictures in .I’d love to see how you get on . Or if you want them done for you, send me a pm .

I have a quite a few questions:
Can you complete change the colour hydro dipping?
How durable is it from rings and being handle all the time?
How would remove it if you wanted to change the item you hydro dipped?
What sort of finishes can you get?

Hi
You can pretty much do any colour
Durable- it has to have a clear coat of some sort over it which will give the same protection as the original finish.
To remove it . You would need to sand down the clear coat for a key then primer and paint and clear coat again.
Finish— it can be either clear coat in high gloss or matt.
If you look at the pictures of my engine, they are all matt clear coats. With the exception of the front bit done in forge carbon on the slam panel . That is gloss clear coat .
Hopefully this has helped. Please ask me anything if you need to

I have another set which are a different colour, the ones shown are broken. So I wanted to initially have them chrome/smoked chrome to match the OEM look. I sprayed them chrome but when I put a clear coat they become more grey. I guess too much moisture in the air but I tried it in a back room in the house with a heater on in the room at 18 degrees C plus with the same results. So now I am looking at other options.Dave 2 dogs wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 5:22 pm What were you thinking of having on them ?

I am not sure if I want carbon fibre but just trying understand what I can do.
Can you send the link for your work and engine bay?

Yes done it here . It is tricky but feasible, I ended up not having vinyl in between the two spokes.
