Z4C aero bumper retro fit issue. + aero bumper number plate options

Post by mrlightyear » Tue Oct 04, 2022 3:07 pm

To go along with fitting aero side skirts and the fitment issues I’ve come across link (viewtopic.php?t=137992&sid=58d0b6edc440 ... b36a6d8b4d)

The bodyshop has email regarding the retro fit of an aero bumper from the standard bumper on a 2007 coupe, they are reporting that they will need to cut a few groves out of the aero bumper to match that of the standard bumper in order to fit them properly.

Can anyone explain what’s going on here was under the impression it was a straight swap…?

Aero number plate options.

Originally was gonna reuse the number plate plinth from the original bumper and remount it on the aero bumper but finding now the plinth is too large for the aero bumper. Apparently bmw only have one part number for this. Wondering what others have done here with number plates and aero bumpers.

Cheers for your help as always gents.

My car place never mentioned any fitment issues 🤷🏼‍♂️

I used the tape provided with reg. plate and stuck straight to the bumper, no issue

As far as the aero bumper goes, you will need to cut slots similar to the stock bumper because of the plastic bumper to wing brackets having small ribs.

I recently replaced these plastic brackets to find that my original aero bumper would not fit back onto these brackets! Very small (and careful) amount of filing later and the notches were cut and it fit perfectly.

These are the ribs that cause the issue:

I am pretty sure the design of these brackets changed to add the ribs that now cause fitment issues to try to stop them breaking so easily.

Maybe my bumper already had this issue sorted when I bought it? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Thanks this sounds very similar to my issue and seems to make sense as these bracket seem to break a lot.
