A question on quoting others' posts

Post by Pondrew » Sat Oct 01, 2022 4:28 pm

This has been bugging me for ages and I can't see any pattern to it. So:
If I want to only quote part of someone's post, I tend to highlight the relevant part. Sometimes it will let me quote the highlighted part and sometimes it won't, so then I have to use the " button and manually delete the bits I don't want. Can anyone shed any light on why it seems to be random when it lets me and when it doesn't? I'm presuming there is a reason but can't work out what it could be!
TIA

Software is programmed that way, only for you, just to piss you off. Cost a fair bit but most of us contributed. :P

That Pondew is one of the infinite monkeys working on writing the complete works of Shakespeare, so most of his posts are just random gibberish :D

I've never seen the 'insert quote' option fail to appear (although with two orders of magnitude fewer posts than you, the odds are not in my favour anyway!), but I presume you've also tried highlighting the text before clicking the " button? That seems to only copy the selected portion into the quote for me, but it sounds more like the whole 'highlighting a selected portion' bit is what's broken for you...

Yep that is the thing that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I did it when quoting your line above but sometimes it just highlights it but doesn't come up with the "insert quote in the quick reply form" so I can't do it.

Pond - to offer some moral support against all the trolls (and bots!) on here, yes it bothers me too. I just don’t complain much. :D
