Hose pipe ban?

Post by SV8Predator » Sat Sep 17, 2022 10:04 pm

Like to keep my cars clean. Hosepipe ban here since 24th August. Thought I'd better find a solution.

And here it is:

A cordless pressure washer! Runs from a watering can!

Thought this would be s**t, It isn't. It really isn't.

Combined with a snow-foam bottle, it certainly works very well. As can be seen in the above pic. Remember, by the way, that snow-foam's primary function is for the owner to take photos of his newly snow-foamed car and post on Facebook/social media. And it certainly fulfills that function as can be seen above.

The pressure washer simply pulls the water out of the garden watering can but (obvs) can be connected to a hose once the ban is lifted. It's no super high-pressure Karcher, but it works surprisingly well and is very convenient and very suitable for car washing. Because the pressure is not so high (22 bar) you can even use it on your Z3 soft top, which I wouldn't recommend with a very high-pressure washer as it can damage the fabric.

The cordless example effortlessly rinses the car off. And get this, I just used four, yes four, watering cans to wash the two cars!

The snow-foam bottle is from Halfords and is a good bit of kit. It comes with an adaptor that works with the Titan cordless pressure washer, and an adaptor for the Karcher, for when life returns to normal. Make no mistake, this is a quality piece of kit, all brass fittings, no plastic here. I don't know how they do it for the money. Fully adjustable, just tweak the adjustment knob while "foaming" to get the best "foaminess".

So I'm very happy with these two purchases. Initially I thought I'd be filling up the watering can every two minutes, but two cans per car, I'm amazed how little water it uses to do such a great job.

A hose pipe in a bucket.

Drove mine out of the garage when it was heaving down a few days back and washed it with fresh rain water. then drove it back in the garage and dried it off. :D

Brilliant. Been thinking about a self feeding pressure washer for a while, outr supply is a bit limited here at 8l/min and 1.2 bar, mainly due to a very long 15mm supply pipe, so a normal washer can actually shrink the hose walls!

And demonstrates how little water you actually use from a pressure washer or hose when washing a car as well.

I think the hose ban is really aimed at those tools who put a lawn sprinkler on then go to bed and forget about it.

This hose pipe ban drives me nuts...don't trust the chaps at local car wash.
I could undertsand in the summer but give it couple more weeks and there would be flooding issues..yet we are not allowed to wash our cars. :headbang:

As I haven't ever participated in the snow-foam phenomenon, I was wondering if that was the primary reason.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.
