TPMS Service Kit?

Post by Colin_E » Thu Sep 29, 2022 7:28 pm

I scuffed a wheel yesterday :headbang: and went today to get a quote for a refurb. The only surprise was a £9 charge for a "TPMS service kit". Normal or not? Are there components in a TPMS equipped wheel that automatically need replacement in such circumstances?

It’s just the valve stem plus minor other rubber bits when they change a tyre and remove the valve in the case of a repair / refurb..pretty standard stuff..
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…
A very modified Atacama Yellow 35is

Fair enough. Not exactly a dealbreaker but I hadn't anticipated it. Same company fitted my tyres a few months back and if these things were replaced then, they weren't separately itemised.

The kit includes a valve stem retaining screw, the sensor, rubber seal, valve stem, washer, nut, and cap. The sensor end of the system mounts to the inside of the wheel and has a rubber gasket to prevent an air leak. Think of a TPMS as an advanced tire stem (valve).
