124 spider Arbarth

I can't help keep looking at these little cars, not the greatest power obvs, but a small nimble manual is very tempting 2nd hand as a stop gap until I can order a manual G29, if they do one, or a 4.0 piggy gts, either in 2024 all being well.

I guess it's just a change from BM's for a while, I'll keep the M Roady but just fancy something else that's cheap to run and fun. Anyone ever tried one...?

Yes, I do like them at the right price. Same as my 595 comp engine, exhaust etc they are really nice throw about cars without the worry of jealous people wanting to damage it.

We live in a nice area Paul, where one does not behave in such a manner....

Given it’s another G29/Supra type situation I think they’ve done well to make it distinctive…FWIW I like it a lot…at least it’s not one of a million MX5s..appreciating that core DNA is the same as the latest MX5 which does look sharper..

It’s got a nice retro feel..for top down motoring you could do a lot worse ..IMHO..

BHP is not the only thing… :tumbleweed:  :driving:

In some ways they remind me of the smart roadster, small forced induction engine combined with a light & sharp handling chassis, fun to drive & cheap to run :driving:

Nice cars,John.
Not a fan of the Black only bonnets available at first launch, but have seen quite a few now with colour coded bonetts, which looks better.
As said,mx5 in essence,so that gives to our confidence in reliability, handling etc.
Go for it,John

I get the looks are marmite, but I like them, same as I like the G29, and the interior is superb.

They're a lot better sounding than an mx5 with a lsd as standard too. I really can't see a downside from my perspective. :driving:

Yep the black bonnet was optional Craig, I'm not buying new so I'll take what I can get as I like either option, but ideally prefer the black bonnet.

No LSD on a Mazda

Not universally true. Depends on the engine and trim. My 2.0 Sport Recaro has an LSD.

If you’re seriously looking then at least try a 2.0 ND2 (2019 on, 184hp) with LSD to compare. Lots of aftermarket exhausts if you want more drama.

Ah ok I didn't know that M1, obvs need more detailed research, many thanks.

There fixed that for you Robinho! No, no; really no need for thanks. :D

I'll offer my 2p on this, my mate has one and I've had the pleasure of driving it.

In short, they're awesome little cars. The exhaust sounds ridiculous (in a good way), lots of crackles on the overrun and a nice "bark".
Enough power to have fun, but not get into silly speed territory - perfect for a B-road. Very balanced chassis with pretty impressive brakes (4-pot Brembos)
They're comfortable too. Seats are supportive and the ride is quite compliant.

Go and test drive one, I think that'll give you your answer :)
