Help Needed - Sound Generator
Hi all,
I am new to Z4 Forum and in need of your help.
I am currently looking at 2008 2.5si Sport Euro or 2008 2.0i Sport Euro to potential add to the garage. I want to remove the sound generator for a little fun but in need of your help understanding out of those two models which which has a sound the generator or if both, that I can remove.
Any tips and help on this would be highly appreciated.

Help Needed - Sound Generator
Hi and welcome.
I am not certain if the 2.0i has a sound generator. I know the earlier ones don't.
The 2.5si I think should have one. Simplest way to check is to look at the LH engine rear bulkhead and see if there is a pipe about 2" in diameter going into it. That is what pipes sound into the cockpit.
If there is then remove the passenger side kick panel that fits underneath the glove-box and look up behind it.
You'll see a hole with a bit of foam in it. Pull the foam out and things will get much louder!
There is another piece of foam at the oposite end of that pipe too, but I'd suggest taking just one out first as it can get a little intrusive.

Yes, you don’t want to actually remove the sound generator as it, er, generates sound.

Hi Charlie and welcome to the forum.
I may be wrong but I have a feeling it was only the 3 litre models that had a sound generator as standard. Hopefully someone will know for sure.

Pulling the pipe from the bulkhead, removing one of the foams, and pushing the pipe back is an even faster way of doing the mod, 30 secs. I’ve done it several times and always, however, ended putting the foam back.

The only reason I didn't say that method was that it is possible to not get the pipe seated correctly in the grommet again. Especially if it's old and the rubber has dried and gone hard.

Unless retro-fitted to a lesser-engined model, you'll only find the sound generator on 3-litre modelscharlie.partridge wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 5:24 pm out of those two models which which has a sound the generator

Didn’t think about that but you’re right. The pipe could also be fragile by now.

All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

If you find one elsewhere, put the details up and you'll get all the advice you can handle.
