Z4 coupe

Post by Unitedleeds1919 » Tue Sep 13, 2022 11:54 pm

Just testing the waters to see what’s available or coming up for sale, I am monitoring cars at the usual places and possibly viewing one on Thursday but work depending

Preference
Grey, blue, green possible, white possible....grey is my preference
Must have Xenons, heated seats, cup holders....fold mirrors, multi cd, cruise are nice too but not essential

Mileage ....my first z had 150,000 on it and was brilliant but I would prefer lower mileage

Manual or auto, the way I drive like miss daisy it matters not and living in Leeds auto certainly has plus points but I have not drove an auto

Waterpump if it has not been replaced I’d be thinking it will probably at £350-£400 ish
Prefer non rusty cars so good sound bodywork is preferable

Cat n/ns ...fine but price needs to reflect and cat n would be 30% off it’s equivalent non cat car...I have had cat d stuff and it is very difficult to sell on

Decent tyres matching pairs at least on each axle

Prefer black top engines as they seem an improvement but that’s not definitive as I have had both with no issues and same feel

Money... good question as I see these dipping a bit and patience might be recommended, I’m in and out the country a bit so hit and miss with my time but that doesn’t stop a bit of chat...

Please note I do not want the greatest low mileage example at top money budget up to £8k but prefer to spend less

Example a car I’m interested in is £4300 on we buy any car it is lovely but it’s up at £7800 so I think it’s a £7k car but I’m no expert ....sorry long winded post but think it’s better to give some info and save everyone’s time.

Just quickly skimmed over your post, I'm not looking to sell and don't tick half of the boxes anyway but I'd just want to reiterate don't undershoot the waterpump cost like I initially did.

Not a simple job so get a Z or BMW specialist to have a pop (or do it yourself but it isn't something I fancied). Cost me about £250 in labour, and having bought the parts myself it was next to £500 by the time you have the Pierburg pump, thermostat and the U pipe which if you're already in there you might as well do it all at the same time.

Just don't want someone to make the same mistake as me, seeing prices from Germany on eBay and once the additional fees are added on it's really not as cheap as you'd think. Only real benefit is getting it done properly, and using quality parts means it'll not need doing again, and will be (as with yourself) easier to sell with it being one of the major failure points on these engines.

Cup holders are easy to fit, as is CC but the coupes also tend to be decently specced. Can't say I've been driving at night and felt the car without bi-xenons was insufficient. I drive my partners car with what feels like two lighthouses on the front but it's not much better or worse, but I also don't daily mine so that might help.

Either way, best of luck with the purchase. Don't rush into it, find the spec you want as there are loads for sale but I have noticed that number is getting smaller and smaller over the last few months. I'd also not buy a garage queen if you aim to drive it more than once a week, enjoy the fact you buy higher miles but see little to no depreciation as long as you look after it!
Current:
Sapphire Black Coupe Auto

Never forgotten:
Fiat Coupe 20vt x2
E92 330D

Wanting:
Montego Blue Z4m

Cheers appreciate it, how bizarre I have literally just put a post up regarding the waterpump ...I have had two coupes and had the waterpump fail on my old SE I should never have sold that car 150,000 miles and was lovely a bit over £4k it went for, a guy drove it back to Denmark or somewhere

I have a z to look at tomorrow now as I got delayed in Scotland working last night but it’s 129,000 miles and has not had the pump changed so I’m definitely wary it will need changing and brexit certainly won’t have helped me buy one
