The PS4 has relatively soft sidewalls which may be contributing to your perceptions about steering.

I've owned a Porsche 968 and a Lotus Evora, both of which are considered benchmarks when it comes to steering, and I would describe my Z4MR's steering feedback (with brand new inner and outer tie rods, front control arms and lollipop bushes) as pretty good. Certainly not woolly.

Maybe new lollipop bushes are in order. Changing the 3s bushes from stock to z3m roadster bushes helped alot.

Fixed that! :P
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

Not just me then

It's the helm that's partly to blame for this, for although the Z4's standard electronic power-steering set-up has been ditched in favour of a hydraulic system, it's still not as good as is should be. Steering responses are more consistent, but detailed feel is still lacking and the weighting is excessive, forcing you to manhandle the M Roadster through tight corners.

Having just spent 1,500 miles pushing hard in my Z4MR through some of the best twisties in the world (I'm still on my trip and typing this in Northern Spain) I'd say Meaden's review linked above is spot on, I'll also slightly downgrade my earlier rating of the steering from 'pretty good' to 'reasonable'. Compared to the best hydraulic setups the granular feel is certainly not quite all there. I also find the rack too quick around the straight ahead for my liking - it makes judging the amount of lock needed a bit tricky when pushing on along roads containing different corners of varying radii. Makes me think the Z4MC with its even faster rack would not suit me at all.

7/10 steering combined with sitting a long way from the front axle means it's not always easy to get confident placing the nose of the car. And you absolutely do need to manhandle it - it's not a car that encourages precision like a Lotus or a Cayster. Rather, you bully it and throw it around. It's a blunt instrument but fun in its own way.

Still, a M Coupe with -1.5-2deg front camber has a very feelsome steering.

It’s never going to drive like an Elise, no matter what you do. The only options you have are to push the bushings, tyres and suspension towards a more track focused setup but that may not always be a positive, depending on what you want from the car. Ultimately, it’s a bit of a brute with big old lump out front and will never be a telepathic, ‘fingertip’ type of car.

I loved Meaden's review and I am glad it's not just my car and that others feel the same. It's still a gem of an experience to drive.
