Rear Indicator Bulb Warning

Post by PJR » Sat Jul 30, 2022 11:09 am

I have a warning on the dash that the rear right indicator bulb is out (2012 28i).

Is this a simple bulb replacement task or it something more convoluted? The manual seems to refer to an LED?

its a sealed unit unfortunately, so no option to replace bulb.
its an led strip.
you may get away with removing the pop off cover on the back and drying it out with a hair dryer, but will eventually need the unit replacing.
i believe some people have replaced the rear seals which is where the water gets in, but not had any experience personally.

Thanks Phoenixboy.

Is Fitting a new one a job for a garage to do or can it be home replaced easily?

You need some trim tools to remove the various trim before you can remove the unit..later versions are held in with just 2 8mm nuts..

To get to the trim that covers the lights you normally have to motor the roof so that the boot lid is fully open with the roof pack open on top of the car..

You will probably have to buy both sides as the6 fade with age and if one is out the other is probably on its way..

Expect to pay £150-£180 per light …
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…
A very modified Atacama Yellow 35is

I replaced one with my Dad, same issue.

Took about an hour to replace ourselves.

Not too hard to do, even with little experience.

Did you pull all 4 seals into the boot? That's important!

In many cases these parts were wrongly mounted by only pressing it onto the body panel. In that case water will run into the boot and later on destroys the hydraulic pump.

We must have, I live in the north of England, so if it wasn’t done correctly, the boot would be wetter than the Bismarck.

Well, the first rain would be sucked up by the pump's foam.

Replaced both my rear lamps as the outside lense was coming loose, both where working perfectly well.

Repair job may be later need a triangle bit to strip down

Easy to take out with the plug tool you just need to have the boot open with the roof to pull the plastic inner covering the lense.

Other than that pretty easy, also look at home many holes are in the rear body potentially plug
