Has anyone got any experience with replacement costs? What should I be paying? Local Indy that I like has suggested a high pitched noise at idle sounds like the water pump is on its way out! Currently at 74k on the clock.

Morning
It’s highly likely that it’s the original and therefore could need replacing
I can only speak from experience that:
It’s a faffy job as you have to lift the engine slightly to get the pump past the bulkhead
It’s usually best to do the thermostat at the same time
Likewise it’s also prudent to replace the expansion tank
Cost wise using autodoc or similar uk providers I would pay around £30-£100 for a pump depending on brand

I'd double check it's not simpler and idler or tension pulley too.

Thanks for the help all, I’ll be checking as mentioned to make sure it’s not just a pulley as well however the water pump does look like the original for sure. Alternator has been changed recently thankfully.

Mine was the tensioner pulley on a 2004 3.0i, 91k miles. Only squeaked at idle and only when hot. Just a heads up! Changed it this May just prior to selling.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll make sure to check this. The noise is literally only when the car idles or when the clutch is in and it's disengaged from a gear but like yourself, only when up to temperature.oldgitdave wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 5:44 pm Mine was the tensioner pulley on a 2004 3.0i, 91k miles.
