Door Airbag Error 986A Connecting Pins?

Post by Hwec2 » Tue Jul 26, 2022 10:18 pm

Hi all,

I’ve got a reoccurring airbag error flagging, code 986A.

986A Resistance, Firing circuit thorax airbag, rear left (E85, E60, EG1), or knee airbag, Front left ( EG3, E64), too low

I tried clearing with Creator 310+ and the error comes back after turning off/on.

I couldn’t find anything on the forum, but looks like others are encountering the same issue on similar age BMWs. Link to what I believe to be the same issue on e46 forum. https://www.e46fanatics.com/threads/dri ... w.1259215/

It appears that the “teeth” on the black clip (over the green connector) in the door airbag can break and cause similar issues. I noticed that one of the “teeth” from the connectors fell out the connector when changing the window regulator this weekend.

Has anybody encountered this issue before? Am I on the right track?

Does anybody have a spare connector, or ideally just the black connector clip as shown in the e46 link (little black clip that fits over the green airbag connector)? Happy to pay!

Thanks for any help!

Just to close off this thread incase anybody comes across it in future.

2 of the pins had snapped (middle pins, left clip in photo), replaced with clip on right - with all pins intact (thanks to Umfaan) - codes cleared and haven’t reappeared.
