Forced drive DA

Post by True-Blue » Sun Jul 10, 2022 11:26 pm

I spotted a second hand, but unused new, Flex XCE 10-8 forced drive machine for a decent price on EBay not too far from me so decided to go and have a look. Sure enough, box was a bit battered, but machine and all bits were un-used so decided to go for it.

I love it, different experience to a free spinning DA, but excellent correction abilities. The pad does not stall on curved panels, and you can really lean into the machine for bad defects such as bird etchings. I reckon anyone could become proficient with one with an hour or so’s practice.

Wish I’d gone down this route ages ago, used it on the Mrs car this weekend and it’s produced excellent results in a faster time than I ever managed with a free-spinning machine

She is delighted with the finish 8)

Wow! That’s an excellent result. The car looks lovely. If you fancy a bit more practice you could polish our 330e. It ‘s been standing outside whilst waiting for a new garage to be completed.

That looks really good.

Am I right in thinking that as it cannot stall you have to be a little more careful?

Thanks for all the positive comments, much appreciated :)

In theory, yes, a forced drive machine will burn through clear coat more quickly than a DA due to not stalling, so it’s a case of not going too crazy, especially on edges and raised swathe lines etc.

The Forced drive is definitely harder work physically, but the Z4 is all curves so for me it’s a better tool overall. It takes quite a bit of finesse to keep a free spinning DA actually spinning on some of the Z4’s curves, which can take a lot of practice
