Grease type bearings

Post by pvr » Sun Jun 26, 2022 3:39 pm

I have a permanent high pressure water hose outside and noticed that it becomes more and more difficult to put on the attachments via the click fittings. I sprayed white lithium grease on the bearing balls but it is still very stiff to move the connection bit.

What type of grease should I put on it to get it free moving?

I would spray it down with brake cleaner first and blow it out with compressed air, then try spray lithium or silicone.
It's probably just grit.

Thanks grannyknot, will have a try at cleaning first and then grease. It seems there is a little rust in the bearing area and the slider that goes over it.

John - at least mine is seizing up whilst yours never worked in the first place :P

If its a metal fitting I had the same problem years ago. I thought it would be a good idea and a brass fitting would last longer.
Swapped it for a plastic one and its probably lasted double the time so far and still going.

Yes, it is metal but think it is part of the entire hose / reel setup. Just a case of cutting off the metal one and replace with plastic? Never looked for plastic yet so will have a browse what exists in that area

Joking aside lithium white grease is a little thick Paul, keep it clean and a little 3in1 oil will keep it lubed without becoming sticky.

Thanks John, have ordered brake cleaner to clean it first and will put some oil in. Do like the idea of a plastic replacement but can’t seem to find the quick release in non brass or metal

See how you go with it Paul, clean and a little oil may well solve your issues for a long time.
