At that stage, the EVs will be running economy batteries that run at half capacity and the car won’t be able to exceed 50 mph or so. Achieves all goals in one go then :(

No one said all cars would tranform into EVs on new years eve of 2030... if we mandate 100% EVs sale from 2030 that will take another 15 years to reach 90+% of actual EVs on the road, so that now gives us 23 years to get there which is plenty of time for BoJo to build a dozen nuclear reactors (more reliable to charge for december holidays when there is no wind IMHO). It also align well with carbon neutrality goals for 2050
Gone - Ford Ka MK2 Petrol - Black
Will hang around to carry materials/people and in emergency - Ford Fiesta MK7 1.0 Ecoboost - Black, white rally rims, white decals, remapped
Now - Z4 Coupe - Montego Blue: Here

We could run the EVs using all the hot air from the Houses of Parliament, ‘gasogate’? Hot air turbines would work a treat with all of that
Now, Sterling grey Z4 2.2 with cup holders, stubby aerial and sport seats. Roadsters ‘cause they’re great with the roof down.
Ford Anglia, Red Sprite, a few MG midgets, MGB Roadster and yellow Ford Capri, all gone many years now.

We could generate all the electricity we want if we used our coal, oil and gas reserves.

Now there is a novel idea. Why hasn’t anyone thought about it already?

Last time I looked, my electricity was made up from 11% coal. How 'green' is that?
EVs powered by coal....what a step forward.

The 'renewables' can count this one out for a while (this is a commercial turbine which is sited in a field opposite my last house). The farmer apparently got paid £80k for each turbine (2 off), and £10k a year every year. They reduce the crop production area by 36m2 each plus 30m2 for the control shed. The access road takes approx 2 acres out of a 150 acre field.

All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

Just going slightly off topic (Apologies) but our local authority earlier this year gave planning permission for 4,000 new houses all of which are being built on what was farm land. In addition to Pondrew's comments above, how much food production is that loosing?

Well, well. The government has just announced ending the EV grant. What is next, full road tax for them?

EV grant was a bit rubbish reallly, I ordered an ID3 and that didn't attract any grant as it was over the allowable price. So unless you buy something really cheap, there was no contribution anyway.

Road pricing per mile. Only a matter of time.

Need to zero rate domestic energy before they bring that in.

On this point, this is what is putting me off buying an EV. I understand that many manufacturers are only just putting out their first EVs, and so they need to prioritise practical family cars, but I'm a single guy living alone, I'm not having kids and have no need for an E-SUV or a boring Hatchback. I want to see car makers designing fun EV Roadsters for folks who want fun cars, but I have a feeling they'll all say that no-one wants them and that they won't sell (I mean, they've already said the G89 is the last Z4 because of this, so I can't seen them making an electric one).

I'll keep my hopes up for a fun e-Roadster but until then I'm never giving up my Z4. (Oh, and I'm never buying the Tesla one, even if it wasn't £250k).
