Hitting 90k on 2012 E89 - Gonna change the Timing chain
It might be a bit early but service is due at 90k so I asked for quotation with full service and it came up to 680 (+vat), reasonable price considering the 100-120k if considered a life for this design

So the full service and timing chain replacement, new guides and new tensioner is £816?
Including parts?

Several timing chains on N20s have let go long before 90k miles so its a prudent move if your car is a keeper

Which garage are you using for the job?
It’s a really good price, I have heard quotes of £1200 without the service included.

£1200? that's a theft, I've another friend who is a mechanic and he said the worst case scenario would be £900.

I have seen another post here recently about the same issue, people in that thread are talking about changing parts of the oil pump too, I would be interested to find out more about that, if you are doing it as part of the job.
The Z4 is definitely a keeper!

You might as well go for Oil Pump and Water Pump change when you do your Timing Change, I still need to get quotation for those two but It's highly recommended to do. There was revised Oil Pump by BMW so it's a must.

It’s the old pump drive mechanism..not the oil pump itself..
