It might be a bit early but service is due at 90k so I asked for quotation with full service and it came up to 680 (+vat), reasonable price considering the 100-120k if considered a life for this design ;)
Electrical engineer with interest in mechanical stuff, hit me up if you need help with some interesting projects.

So the full service and timing chain replacement, new guides and new tensioner is £816?

Including parts?

It’s what you pull on to go back in time and undo all farkles.

Several timing chains on N20s have let go long before 90k miles so its a prudent move if your car is a keeper
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…
A very modified Atacama Yellow 35is

It’s something I would like done eventually.
Which garage are you using for the job?

It’s a really good price, I have heard quotes of £1200 without the service included.

Mike Smith in Leicester, it was recommended by other z4 owner.

£1200? that's a theft, I've another friend who is a mechanic and he said the worst case scenario would be £900.

Ok, will be interested to hear how you get on with it.

I have seen another post here recently about the same issue, people in that thread are talking about changing parts of the oil pump too, I would be interested to find out more about that, if you are doing it as part of the job.

The Z4 is definitely a keeper!

You might as well go for Oil Pump and Water Pump change when you do your Timing Change, I still need to get quotation for those two but It's highly recommended to do. There was revised Oil Pump by BMW so it's a must.

It’s the old pump drive mechanism..not the oil pump itself..
