Took the car in today. Oil change, new oil filter, inspection by technician (All clear), service book stamped and they replaced FOC some plastic clips on my sill kick plate as they were broken. Great service and Beth on the service desk was brilliant. £120 inc VAT.

Have used Lloyds in Newcastle. Don't know if it's the same company but that is where my girl is going for it's service just before the warranty runs out next year.

When the i8 first came out they let me borrow one for an afternoon, not just a short test drive.

You can’t argue for £120 from a main dealer ..the oil n filter is going to cost you £50+ anyway…I know your car had a clean bill of health but their diagnostics would have caught any issues..

They were super helpful lending me several G29s when I visited them a few times.
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard..

It makes sense for me as my local BMW dealer is less than 5 miles away, I always get the brake fluid changed at the same time.

Sounds very reasonable for a main dealer.
Have used my local main dealer for various issues, and must say they have been reasonable and go the extra mile to get things done.

On the flip side my wife’s car had a recall so I took it to Bmw Stratstone in Harrogate and it’s been a nightmare since

Last time I had a service at a main dealer they never did half the work they charged for.

Spark plugs weren't changed.

Fluids weren't changed.

Can't verify the rest but once you leave your car at a dealer there is no guarantee that they do everything they said they did.

How many of you check the work afterwards or would know how to?

For sure there are rogue repair entities and not just manufacturer main dealers.

As an ex continuing airworthiness manager and a ‘twiddler’ of bikes and cars for over 50 years I have a variety of techniques to assess if and to what standards the work I’ve requested has been done.

My experience is that if anything main dealer service departments over service cars related to the manufacturers mandated maintenance programs. On the other hand some Indy’s driven by a perceived need to be ‘cost effective’ have skipped items and used at times cheap pattern parts.
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard..

It comes down to building a relationship with your dealer.
Trust is built and earned, then the chances of them charging for items that were not done become minimal if at all.
As i have found on my recent trip to my main dealer, they will make the extra effort if they have built that relationship.

So i assume you tackled them over this?
If you were able to confirm they had not carried out the work, especially on say the plugs, what was there response?

No. The service was carried out 6 years ago.

It was only when I went to change the plugs again and my new mechanic showed me the ones he pulled out the car I knew they weren't the ones I handed to the dealer to put in 6 years ago.

I have a nest hello plus 4 CCTV camera. So I checked the footage to verify. Sure enough the ones he showed me where the ones he took out the car.

Wouldn't touch Lloyds with a barge pole personally.

Used them for 10+ years and Carlisle was my local when I lived in Penrith. Had numerous issues with my Z4M that they were very difficult to deal with and when my 2014 Mini Cooper S had the poor early PSA Peugeot Citroën engine and the crankshaft sheared twice in 12k miles ending 2 engines they made my life almost impossible, the car was with them for 6 weeks each time as they needed to wait for a new engine. Of course it was me not the car and were very aggressive about it and they gave no leeway what so ever essentially saying if it happened again the car wouldn't be repaired. Funny thing is it was a car I shared with my mum and she used it to commute to work... so it definitely wasn't getting any punishment.

In the end I had no faith in the car and the only way to get out was to pay out of the finance which ended up costing me a lot of money. Subsequently at the end of 2015 they moved to a BMW made unit. Never deal with them again.

I took my business to Batemans which unfortunately was bought out by the Lloyd group so again won't be using them either. I dont use anything but specialists these days as ive not had a good experience with any of the BMW dealer network garages.

All is well until you have an issue. Even getting warranty work is difficult now as the dealer you bought the car through have to approve work done at any other network garage.

I had another great issue with a Mini I bought from Williams stockport where the passenger plastic interior door trim changed colour to grey had it done no issue at stockport where I bought it, same thing happened on the drivers side not 6 months later and the Williams garage in Trafford Park (which is like a mile from me instead of driving the 45 min round trip to stockport) had just opened and they denied the warranty work yet there was history on the file. I also had an issue with the headlight and they didn't bother putting the retaining clips in the light, I only noticed when I needed to fill the washer fluid and the light nearly fell off!

I took it to the same garage that had done the work and accused me of the car having crash damage and someone not repairing it properly! Yet not even a month before it was in having a sensor replaced on the headlight. Thankfully I got an apology for that one when the service manager owned up to the clips not being reattached.

The dealer network is literally a joke you pay all this money for the car and get the privilege of being accused at every issue.

I also had several issues with the main dealer about a mini we had too. I also got shot of the car afterwards.

This is the main dealer in Glasgow. Pinkston road.

Total cowboys. My mini conked out on the motorway twice. Then on a bend ona. Country road. Dangerous. This is after their so called repairs. It was in and out for months.

In the end one of the parts they had replaced they hadn't programmed to the car so it kept cutting off the engine and refusing to start.

So they don't even know how to replace parts properly on the cars. Their so called head mechanic had to phone an independent and tell him what has happened and what to do. I know this because I then got the cars clutch replaced by an indy and he said the dealer had called him as he used to work there and was their best mechanic to help them on the car as they were clueless.

At the end of the day they employ junior mechanics. Any real mechanic would have their own place.
