Windshott Clear Glass Windbreaker

Post by KrusteKlubba » Fri May 27, 2022 12:25 pm

Just wondered if anyone on here has bought a Windshott windbreaker?

Does it fit ok?
Is it effective?
Would you recommend ordering one…..probably from Autoid?

Any other comments welcome.

Cheers for reading!

Windshott Clear Glass Windbreaker

I did look at these as quite liked the idea of it being glass. However, after some further investigation, it would turn out that to avoid wind buffeting, there still needs to be an amount of airflow through whatever is doing the windbreaker.

Can't comment on the fit or whether it's effective or not... but given the above, my interest quickly waned.

I can’t see it working unless there are holes in it to let the airflow through.

May look cool but a waste of time and money otherwise.

Everyone says these are a nightmare in terms of noise inside the cabin at anything above 50mph.

I never understood why they are all mesh until I read up about these glass ones.

Stick to original would be my advice.

I have just fitted a mesh one and the cabin has been transformed that even my wife who (is car clueless) didn't at first notice I'd changed the MX-5 for a Z4 commented how nice it was inside the car and what had I done? Yes visibility is slightly restricted but I don't find it to be a problem.

If you do go for the glass version just drill a load of holes in it, should work!

Doesn’t the Boxster have a glass one?
Now, Sterling grey Z4 2.2 with cup holders, stubby aerial and sport seats. Roadsters ‘cause they’re great with the roof down.
Ford Anglia, Red Sprite, a few MG midgets, MGB Roadster and yellow Ford Capri, all gone many years now.

Used to be, but it was a different design for the cabin.
Newer boxster is mesh grille. Same as 911.

I have one, if you live someplace warm its acceptable.
It reflects the wind a bit more in my opinion. Under tunnels and bridges it reflects the noise a bit.
When you drive top down at 10°C its a bit annoying.
And you have to decide if the clear view is worth it.

I think i will swap mine out for the mesh again when it gets colder again and then maybe back to the glass one in the winter when you drive with the top closed all the time.

If you are interested i can provide you with a discount (10euro if i remember correctly and if it is still valid) at https://shop.ur-windschott.de/en/bmw-z4-g29/

Thanks for the kind offer. I’m going to stick with the OEM mesh breaker or just remove it when it’s hotter and I’m on local roads.
