You buy a £1000 Z4 unseen for your Mrs, and SORN it upon delivery.

Well, first of all, you can’t re-tax it on the first of the following month (today) because the DVLA system needs 5 days to ‘catch up’ :headbang:

So, having failed yesterday to get the top off of the roof motor housing, and deciding to defer to Alan (Number 5) for the roof fix, and not being able to drive it to better asses the other issues…. I thought I’ll get the FLEX out

This was the paint condition AFTER using Bilthamber HD, fallout remover, washing and claying…the particles are just dust from my garage after doing a ‘test patch’ and the panel was wiped down again before I started.

I suppose this is what you get with being kept outside and used as a daily driver for the last 7 years. To be honest, at this point, the car is better than I was expecting with masses spent on upkeep, but the paint is going to take some effort.

Not a bad result at all, with much better clarity and flake pop, however, this is never going to be a concourse example so I doubt I’ll go to the same levels of effort as previous cars. I’ve only done the top of the boot lid and the passenger side rear wing so far, but it’s coming up reasonably well.

Think of what you paid and what you are going to end up with. Paint refurb is coming along nicely.

Absolutely true. Let’s hope the weather stays good and your good lady is soon able to enjoy the pleasures of the open top. Fingers crossed for you both that all goes well.🙏

Thanks for the  , finish still shows what I can only describe as ‘etchings’. I have a harder pad still, which I might have a go with, but I suspect a microfibre cutting pad may be required. :?

Thanks Ian, it’s a medical trial (Chemo/immunotherapy) - lifetime commitment, but if that means an extended lifetime with plenty of happy times then we’ll consider ourselves blessed

I came very close to shuffling off this mortal coil a few years ago. But for prompt action by my wife and a brilliant surgeon I wouldn’t be here today. So I know where you are coming from. These sorts of experiences change your outlook on life and put things into perspective. We try to make the most of each day looking for the positives whenever we can. They are improving treatment for cancer at quite a pace so I hope all goes well for your good lady. I’ll keep an eye out for your posts to see how she gets on with her new toy.👍

Well, couldn’t tax it again today, so hopefully the DVLA’s computers will have caught up and we can do so tomorrow.

I realise it’s a bit daft tacking cosmetic issues first, but need to get it out on the road to asses what’s what. For example, the for sale add mentioned a wheel bearing, but I think it might be worn out handbrake shoes. I don’t want start ordering parts until I’ve driven it a bit further than 20’ :D

Anyway a couple of before and afters of the passenger side front wing. I think this side of the car may have encountered roadside foliage on a regular basis
