I recently acquired my brother 2004 E85 with some well known issues...ie soft top motor, ABS/Brake wheel sensor, oil filter housing etc either not working or throwing codes. Given the deal he presented me with, I couldn't refuse it. Now, the fun part and headache starts....I managed to remove the soft top to validate what I had read concerning the location of the motor and hinges. Well, the condition of these items were beyond my expectation. I disassemble the motor cleaned it and tapped on it a couple of times and I was able to resurrect it. I was somewhat baffle because I couldn't figure out why it didn't have any fluid. So, with that being, I serviced the motor, applied power and the driver side hydraulic tube has a pin hole at hinge base due to the corrosion. I'm thinking about applying JB steel sealant and test again. These cars are a major money pit... What have I gotten myself into? Definitely looking forward picking everyone's brain when necessary.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
But as I've only had Coupes I can't offer any real help with your roof issues, although there are a couple of forum members breaking Z4s so maybe you could get a replacement hydraulic tube from one of them.

Anyway good luck getting your car how you want it, and don't forget we like to see photos of new members' cars!

I'm surprised we have got this far without anyone asking to see some photos of your Z4 - we do like photos on here!

Welcome to the forum, yes photos please
Now, Sterling grey Z4 2.2 with cup holders, stubby aerial and sport seats. Roadsters ‘cause they’re great with the roof down.
Ford Anglia, Red Sprite, a few MG midgets, MGB Roadster and yellow Ford Capri, all gone many years now.
